This case demonstrates how Ecolab was able to improve the performance and reduce the operational costs of Cobre Las Cruces S.A.’s opencast mining complex in southwest Spain by conducting system audits, service schedules, automating monitoring, installing more efficient filtration technologies, and employee behavior change. Implementation of Ecolab’s recommendations resulted in in a 40% reduction in water discharge, 22% in energy requirements, and over €1,000,000 in operational cost savings.
